www.londonseoexpert.com How to Use WordPress Widgets in Your Theme Duration: 5 mins 27 secs In this video, I'm going to show you how to customize the appearance of your WordPress blog by using WordPress widgets. Now, to access the WordPress widgets, all you need to do is log in to your WordPress dashboard, and under Appearance, click on Widgets. And you should be able to see the main widgets screen right here. Now, with WordPress version 3.0 and the default 2010 theme, you should be able to see several widget areas -- the Primary Widget Area, the Secondary Widget Area, First Footer Widget Area, Second Footer, Third Footer, Fourth Footer, etc., etc. So the Primary and Secondary Widget Areas are on your WordPress themes sidebar. And then you have four widget areas just for the footer. So first, let's take a look at the default 2010 theme. Okay? And you can see, this is the sidebar area right here, and by default, the theme displays the Archives and also the Meta. And if I scroll down, I'll be able to see in the footer area here...she's pretty empty, okay...say you can see there's nothing in the footer area except the blog title. So let's get started using WordPress widgets. Now, the first thing you need to do is to determine where you want to put all these available widgets. Now, these are just the default widgets, but if you've installed other plugins, then you should be able to see many other different WordPress widgets appear in this section over here. How To Login To Your WordPress Website or Blog

Once you have WP installed on your hosting account you'll be ready to login to your WordPress dashboard to start getting your hands dirty by learning the functions of your site and getting familiar with how the controls are set up. But how do you login? There are a few options available for getting to the login page of your site. By either using a link or entering the address of the page directly. Many WordPress themes include a login link right on the homepage. For example, Twenty Ten the default theme that comes with every WP install, places a link in the lower right corner of the sidebar. Clicking the "Log in" link will take you straight to your login page. But not all themes include this link or for design reasons you may not want such a link on your site. If that is the case you can enter the log in page's web address (URL) right into your browser by adding after your site's web address. For example I have a test site at turtlemassage.com. To get to the log in page of my site I just go to turtlemassage.com/wp-login.php. Once on your log in page you enter the username and password you created when you installed WordPress to access your dashboard.

There's no audio on this video yet. It's my first attempt at an online tutorial. I'll update it as soon as I learn more about adding audio either during recording or overlaying it later. This short video show's how to add a Text widget to the sidebar in Wordpress 2.8.4. A Text widget is used for custom code, like embedding a youtube video or other custom code or just plain text. Most wordpress themes are built with Sidebar widgets. They usually begin with a default list of Blogroll, Recent Posts, Categories and Meta Links (Wordpress links, etc.) As soon as you add one custom widget to the sidebar, the default items will go away (depending upon the theme). I'll be adding more tutorials later.

Of course you need to first install your plug in like any regular Word Press plug in and then readjust it to activate the plug in. here gives me an easier way to add Banner Ads to my site without having to mess with the code or theme files. Lets try this one within the post and click add now Okay I have options to enter the banner URL, upload from your URL or upload from my computer. I will go with this option and then I need to give it a name, let's say ad 1 and I can give it a link, let's say Google for now, it's within the post and I will click save. Now if I visit my site, I would see that the banner ad appears now within the post. Okay another one that is slightly different is a sidebar widget. Let's add one and let's call it ad sidebar, upload from my computer.
